About Ketchikan Indian Community (KIC)

KIC provides a wide range of programs designed to support the holistic needs of our people and strengthen our communities. Services include comprehensive health care through our Tribal Health Clinic, safe and affordable housing, Elder support, youth education and workforce readiness programs, and social services for families in need. KIC also preserves and revitalizes cultural traditions, languages, and environmental stewardship, ensuring that our heritage and values continue to guide our work.
Through these programs, KIC promotes health, cultural connection, economic empowerment, and community healing. From vocational training and scholarships to food sovereignty and language revitalization, our initiatives are rooted in our traditions while equipping Tribal citizens and community members with the resources, skills, and support to thrive.
KIC is a major economic pillar in Ketchikan and Southeast Alaska. The Tribe employs more than 200 year-round employees, of which 68% are Indigenous, making it one of the largest employers in the region. Every dollar earned in our community makes its way through the local economy an average of four times.

About our Clinic
The Ketchikan Indian Community Tribal Health Clinic provides comprehensive, high-quality health care grounded in respect for Alaska Native cultures and values. In partnership with our patients and community, we deliver primary and specialty care, pediatric services, behavioral health and recovery programs, dental care, pharmacy and laboratory services, and wellness support to promote lifelong health and healing.
Our clinic offers acute and chronic medical, dental, pharmacy, and behavioral health care, including specialized services in women’s health and pediatrics. We also provide essential preventive care such as cancer screenings, tuberculosis testing, diabetes screening, prenatal care, and health education. For urgent health concerns, our walk-in clinic is open on weekdays without an appointment, ensuring timely access to care when it’s needed most.
For over ten years, KIC has envisioned and planned for a dedicated Healing Center that would serve not only Tribal citizens, but the broader communities of Southeast Alaska and Alaska, as part of its long-term commitment to health, healing, and wellness.
Ketchikan Indian Community Land Acknowledgement
The lands and waters that surround us are not separate from who we are — they are a living part of our identity, history, and responsibility. Our ancestors’ names are carried in these places. As Haida, Tlingit, and Tsimshian peoples, we belong to this land, and we have since time immemorial.
These lands hold the stories, teachings, and lifeways of our ancestors, and they continue to sustain our people today. With that connection comes a responsibility to protect, honor, and care for the land and the people of these places, now and for generations to come.
Ketchikan Indian Community respectfully acknowledges that our campus is located on Tlingit Aaní, the ancestral and unceded homelands of the Taanta Kwaan, specifically the Ganax̱ádi Clan. We honor and give thanks to the Elders —past and present — who have stewarded this land, upheld cultural knowledge, and carried our people forward. We also recognize the generations yet to come, who will inherit this land and our shared responsibility to care for it. Haw’aa.
